Novak still at the top of the ATP list, chasing Federer’s record

The best Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic started a record-breaking 411th week at the top of the ATP rankings this Monday. Djokovic’s lead has dramatically decreased to 9855 points, with his rivals breathing down his neck. However, it works in his favor that he did not play at Indian Wells and Miami last season, so he doesn’t have points to defend unlike his challengers – Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner.

In the next two months, Djokovic only needs to defend 180 points, while Alcaraz has 1,910, Medvedev has 2,850, and Sinner has 1,510. This means Djokovic has a great opportunity to maintain his leadership position and break another record held by the famous Swiss Roger Federer. Specifically, Djokovic could become the oldest player to top the ATP rankings.

This record is currently held by Federer, who was 36 years and 320 days old when he was first on the list. This could happen on April 1st of this year. If Djokovic maintains his leadership position, at 36 years and 321 days old, he will become the oldest player in history to be at the top of the ATP rankings.
