Legendary Real and Spain goalkeeper passes away

Legendary Real Madrid and Spanish football icon, Miguel Angel Gonzalez Suarez, passed away two months after celebrating his 76th birthday. The renowned goalkeeper had been suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which affects the nervous system, causes muscle weakness, and disrupts physical functions.

The news about the goalkeeper’s illness was made public in December 2022. Miguel spent nearly his entire career at Real Madrid, defending the team’s goal for 18 seasons and making 346 appearances.

He joined the club in 1967. He won eight Spanish league titles, five Cups, two UEFA Cups, and one League Cup.

In 1976, he was named Player of the Year in Spain. Following the tragic news of the icon’s passing, Real Madrid released a statement expressing condolences to his family.
