1 min readThe legendary Real Madrid and Spanish football icon, Miguel Angel Gonzalez Suarez, passed away two months after turning 76. The renowned goalkeeper had been suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which affects the nervous system, causes muscle weakness, and disrupts physical functions. The news of the goalkeeper’s illness was made public in December 2022.
Miguel spent almost his entire career at Real Madrid, defending the club’s goal for 18 seasons, during which he made 346 appearances. He joined the club in 1967 and won eight Spanish league titles, five Cups, two UEFA Cups, and one League Cup. He was named player of the year in the country in 1976.
Following the tragic news of the departure of the legend, Real Madrid released a statement expressing condolences to his family.
