Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one ATP player and the greatest tennis player of all time, recently revealed that he will finally be competing in the first Masters of the season, Indian Wells. Now, the tournament organizers have officially confirmed this. “Welcome back! Djokovic will compete in Indian Wells for the first time since 2019,” the tournament’s Twitter announcement said.
Novak has won Indian Wells five times, just as many as Roger Federer, making them the most successful players in this tournament. In his last appearance at the tournament in 2019, Djokovic lost in the third round to Philipp Kohlschreiber. Indian Wells is scheduled to take place from March 6th to 17th. Djokovic is not defending any points in the upcoming period, while Alcaraz is defending 550 points until Indian Wells.
If he wins the tournament, Novak would strengthen his position at the top of the ATP rankings. He currently leads Alcaraz by 600 points. Medvedev is defending the title in Dubai, so Djokovic is safe there.
