NBA Rule Update: Rivers Named Coach for All-Star Game

2 min read

The new coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Doc Rivers, will lead the Eastern Conference team in the upcoming All-Star game in Indianapolis. This news has understandably sparked negative reactions from basketball fans across the pond, given that Rivers has only coached the Bucks in three games this season. The experienced coach recently took over Milwaukee, suffering immediate losses to Denver and Portland, but then his team defeated Dallas on the road, and that lone victory was enough for him to receive the undeserved recognition to lead the All-Star team. According to NBA rules, the All-Star teams are led by the coaches of the best teams in each conference, but the same coach cannot be on the bench two years in a row.

Boston is the best team in the East, but due to this rule, its coach cannot be the All-Star coach again, so the honor goes to the coach of the second-placed team, currently Milwaukee. Rivers took over the team from Adrian Griffin, who had a 30-13 record with the Bucks before being fired, and if justice were served, he should be the one sitting on the bench in Indianapolis, not Rivers. But the rules are different… Rivers himself admitted that he didn’t deserve this privilege and promised to give the All-Star ring and money he receives to his colleague Griffin. “Adrian will definitely get some money.

And the ring. That’s one of the weird things. This looks really bad. Someone else should be doing this, not me.

I think I’ll send my assistants and go on vacation, I’ll suggest that to commissioner Adam Silver, I think he’ll understand,” said Rivers.
