Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori achieved a remarkable comeback to defeat the world’s third-ranked player, Daniil Medvedev, in a five-set match that lasted for over four hours and 23 minutes. The match ended at 3:39 am local time in Melbourne.

In the first set, Ruusuvuori managed to break Medvedev’s serve in the second game and maintained his lead to win the set. Both players made two breaks in the second set, leading to a tiebreak that Ruusuvuori won convincingly with a score of 7-1.

However, Medvedev stepped up his game in the following sets, managing to maintain his break advantage in the third set and reducing the deficit. In the fourth set, both players again made a break, leading to another tiebreak, which Medvedev won with the same score of 7-1.

In a stunning display of dominance, Medvedev then won the fifth set without losing a single game. The set lasted for only 28 minutes, and Medvedev secured his spot in the third round.

His next opponent will be Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime.
