Superliga Serbia before a fateful decision

The first part of the Serbian football championship ended on February 20 with the match between Radnik and Čukarički. Now, the Football Association of Serbia and the SuperLiga Community will have to address a problem in the next two months, as they need to make a decision in May about the competition calendar for the upcoming year. So, what is the issue? The UEFA is changing the competition format for the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League starting next season.

Specifically, the Champions League and Europa League will have a larger number of clubs, with the seventh and eighth rounds of the group stage being played on January 22 and 28, 2025, or on January 23 and 30. Only the Conference League will not undergo changes, as the group stage will conclude on December 19. This is a more certain scenario than keeping the current competition system, where teams play European matches and then have a break before the start of the national championship, spending additional time on preparations in Turkey or Cyprus. Moreover, the grass pitch in January is not consistent everywhere, and most stadiums do not have heaters or conditions for matches to be played at that time.

Winter and the potential for snow are still insurmountable obstacles for Ivanjica, Surdulica, to some extent Kruševac, Niš, Kragujevac, Novi Pazar, Lučani, and Subotica.
