Alcaraz out of Australian Open after elimination
2 min readZverev secured his victory over the second-ranked player on the ATP list after three hours and eight minutes of play.
He expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I am glad that I finished the third set playing great tennis. At the beginning of the fourth set, I couldn’t maintain that level. But in any case, I found a way to break him. I think I had chances at 4:3 in the fourth set, which I didn’t take advantage of. I played good tennis in the fourth set. Obviously, it wasn’t my best level, but it was good. I didn’t capitalize on my chances; there were many fluctuations in both my tennis level and my serve. I couldn’t find a good serve. I need to improve my game. I have to work on that more, so we’ll see in the future. But today was my shameful level of tennis,” said the world’s second-ranked player.
Reflecting on his performance at the first Grand Slam of the season, the young Spaniard expressed contentment, saying, “Well, this was a good tournament for me; I reached the quarterfinals, played good tennis. As I said, I’m sad about my level today because a round earlier, I played good tennis with a lot of confidence. Overall, I leave the tournament happy, forgetting today’s level. I played great matches here; reaching the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam is a good result, but it’s not what I’m aiming for,” said Alcaraz.
In the semifinals, Zverev will face Russian player Daniil Medvedev.
